ODESSA, Texas – KOBE JARAMILLO delivered another complete-game shutout, while
CONNOR COX and
TREVOR SEBEK both hit home runs, leading the St. Edward's Hilltoppers to an 11-0 victory over Texas Permian Basin in the opening game of the four-game series.
Jaramillo allowed only two Texas Permian Basin players to reach, limiting the Falcons to a single in the second and fourth innings. St. Edward's top pitcher was otherwise flawless, retiring 21 of 23 batters, including seven strikeouts.
Texas Permian Basin committed an error with two outs in the second, and St. Edward's made the Falcons pay for extending the inning with a three-run blast from
TREVOR SEBEK.
Sebek drew a leadoff walk in the fifth, and Cox extended the Hilltopper lead with a two-run home run, going yard for the first time this season. St. Edward's immediately loaded the bases after with two walks and a
MARCO BARRERA single. Texas Permian Basin turned to Hathaway out of the bullpen, who walked
NICHOLAS ANDERSON and surrendered a sacrifice fly to
DAWSON STUTZ to put the Hilltoppers up 7-0.
St. Edward's added four more runs in the sixth innings. Sebek led off with a single through the right side, Travis Chesnut drew a walk, and relief pitcher Lozoya hit Cox to load the bases, then scored Sebek on a balk. Figueroa grounded out to drive in Chestnut, then Barrera walked, stole second, and St. Edward's scored two on a wild pitch.
Jaramillo ended the game by striking out the side in the seventh, catching two batters looking, to bring his season total to 33 strikeouts with a 1.93 ERA to earn his fourth win in four starts.
Sebek hit 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBI, and three runs scored. Cox, Barrera, Anderson, and Stutz each had a hit, and Cox scored two RBI and two runs. St. Edward's finished with five hits in 26 at-bats, drawing 11 walks with eight RBI.
St. Edward's improves to 11-3 with a 10-3 conference record, dropping Texas Permian Basin to 2-11. The Hilltoppers and Falcons will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader.
