Baseball Loses Series Against No. 5 UT Tyler

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's baseball surrendered three home runs, 16 hits, and a season-high 18 runs in an eight-inning loss to the No. 5-ranked UT Tyler Patriots.

The Hilltoppers reconfigured their lineup, moving DYLAN TATE in the second spot, and St. Edward's right fielder made good on it with a solo blast in the first to give St. Edward's the early lead.

St. Edward's starter Carson Blakely walked two in the second, and Connor Clark capitalized on this with a three-run blast for the lead. The Hilltoppers loaded the bases on two singles up the middle and a walk with two outs in the bottom of the inning, and scored on a wild pitch.

Texas-Tyler immediately earned the run back with back-to-back doubles from Justin Williams and Ethan Menard in the top of the third. However, St. Edward's tied the game in the bottom of the inning. CARLO FIGUEROA led off with a standup triple, and LANCE LITTLE hit a sac fly to score him. TRAVIS CHESTNUT followed with the first of two home runs on the day.

The Patriots loaded the bases with two outs when Figueroa couldn't make a play on a one-hopper off his chest, surrendering an infield single. Williams cleared the bases with a grand slam for the 8-4 lead.

Texas-Tyler turned to John Hadden to start the fourth and he went three innings, shutting down St. Edward's with five strikeouts, no walks, and no hits until Chestnut hit another solo blast in the sixth.

Kyle Atkinson answered with a two-run blast in the seventh, Figueroa drove in Sebek on a groundout in the seventh and Tate discord on a wild pitch, but the Patriots scored four runs on four hits in the eighth to trigger the run-rule after St. Ed's left two stranded in the bottom of the inning.

St. Edward's drops to 15-6 with a 14-6 conference record. The Hilltoppers will travel to play Sul Ross State next weekend.
