ALPINE, Texas – St. Edward's hit a season-high five home runs and posted 14 hits, completing a series sweep with a 21-10 victory over Sul Ross State.
The Hilltoppers opened with nine runs in the first.
CONNOR COX started the scoring with an RBI double to left-center. A pitch hit
MARCO BARRERA with bases loaded, then
TRAVIS CHESTNUT cleared the bases with a grand slam.
After
JOSH GRAHAM hit an RBI double down the left-field line,
DYLAN TATE punctuated the inning with a two-run blast.
An error cost St. Edward's a run in the bottom of the inning, but Cox hit a two-run home run in the third to extend the lead to 11-1.
Sul Ross State scored five consecutive runs through the third and fourth innings, plating runs on a passed ball, a sac fly, and two home runs.
St. Edward's added four runs in the fifth, punctuated by Barrera's two-run home run.
Ramos answered with a solo blast at the bottom of the inning, and Sul Ross State scored two more runs in the sixth.
St. Edward's loaded the bases in the seventh, Chestnut walked,
DIEGO SOLIS hit a two-RBI single, and
KHAMANI BLAKNEY hit a three-run home run. Binder added a final home run for Sul Ross State in the seventh.
Chestnut drew four walks to go with his grand slam and finished with five RBI. Cox, Barrera, and Blakney each drove in three RBI. Four Hilltoppers pitched, combining for six strikeouts. St. Edward's improves to 19-6 with an 18-6 conference record. The Hilltoppers host Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday.
