College Sports Communicators announced its 2024-25 Creative & Digital Design Contest winners last week, with St. Edward's Athletics in Austin video produced by Maria Jose Gonzalez Lacayo earning fourth place in the college division hype videos category, and second among all NCAA Division II schools.
Maria Jose Gonzalez Lacayo served as a student photographer, videographer, graphic designer, and intern for the St. Edward's sports information office for the past two years, and as social media coordinator for St. Edward's baseball the year before that. St. Edward's Athletics awarded her the Vincent Powell Award in 2024.
"Maria is one of the most talented, hardworking, and invested students we've had come through the athletics department," St. Edward's Sports Information Director Jesse Blanchard says. "All of our coaches, student-athletes, and their families have appreciated her work and dedication, so it's fantastic and deserving to see it get national recognition."
More than 250 institutions and conference offices participated this year, with a total of more than 650 individuals named on an entry. A total of 435 places were recognized in the overall contest results, while 307 entries garnered "Best Of" honors for each level in the College Division. Nine hundred thirty entries made up the 17 contests in the University Division, composed exclusively of Division I institutions. Division II headlined the College Division with 571 total entries, followed by Division III with 447, the NAIA with 170, Canadian Institutions with 17, two-year colleges with 16, and high schools with nine.
"The Creative & Digital Design contest continues to showcase the immeasurable talent of the CSC membership in the creative space as we recognize the best in our industry through a wide variety of contest categories as judged by their peers," said committee chair
Patrick Murphy of the Colorado School of Mines. "On behalf of myself, vice chair Malloreigh Yingling, contest administrators Andy DeVito, Amanda Phillips and Donnie Smith, along with Executive Board Liaison Matt Panto and CSC Director of Communications and Brand Strategy Beau White, I would like to congratulate all of our winners of the 2024-25 CSC Creative & Digital Design Contest."
A total of 123 different institutions and league offices were recognized, along with 229 individuals who submitted either solo entries or collaborations from their communications and creative staff.
The number of entries in each category determined the number of places awarded for each contest. For the College Division, CSC bestowed "Best Of" honors upon the top finishers from each subdivision, also based on the number of entries received.
"I would like to thank every one of our nearly 90 contest reviewers who served either as a coordinator or a judge," Murphy added. "Without them, conducting this contest would not be possible, and I am truly grateful for their time, dedication, and effort. I am especially thankful for our incredible partners and support team at RhythmQ for helping us implement a new system this year and for all their time, patience, and assistance in answering our questions and getting us up and running with the submission and review system."
