AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball welcomes volunteer assistants Richard Flores and Jayden Nembhard, head coach Jeremy Garcia announces, rounding out the coaching staff in his first full season at the helm.
Flores joins the coaching staff after three years coaching club volleyball, most recently as the head coach of Austin Juniors Boys Volleyball 14 Adidas.
"We are so excited to add Richard to our coaching staff moving forward," Garcia exclaims. "His ability to connect with and relate to our student-athletes is second-to-none, and I look forward to our program continuing to elevate with his help."
Flores is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where he helped train TAPPS powerhouse Antonian Volleyball and USAV-qualifying Texas Fusions Teams in high school. He played club volleyball for six years, competing in the Open division every year, and was on the first boys' volleyball team from Texas to qualify in the Open division.
He also participated in USA Volleyball's High Performance Championships for two years, representing USA Volleyball and the Texoma Region.
"Coaching has allowed me to discover a new love and appreciation for volleyball," Flores says. "I can't wait to share those through genuine connections I hope to make with each student-athlete at St. Edward's."
Nembhard is in her fourth year of coaching club volleyball after a collegiate playing career at the NCAA Division I level, most recently coaching for prominent Dallas-area Texas Advantage Volleyball, and now on the staff at Austin Junior Volleyball.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to give back to the sport and help these athletes grow on and off the court," Nembhard says.
The Keller, Texas, native won multiple Open gold medals at USA Volleyball's Junior National Championships during her club career. She started her collegiate career at Kansas State University, where she earned Big 12 All-Rookie Team and twice earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors. She graduated from Long Beach State in 2024 with a degree in Consumer Affairs.
"Jayden rounding out our staff means we're more than ready to go for our first practice on August 18," Garcia says. "Her experiences in high-level environments will provide a necessary perspective for our student-athletes, allowing them to continue to grow both on and off the court with her help."
St. Edward's volleyball opens its season on the road at the Dallas Classic on September 5. The Hilltoppers' home opener is September 18 against Lone Star Conference newcomer UT Dallas.
