LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Edward's dropped the series finale at Lubbock Christian on Sunday, falling 15–5 as the Hilltoppers lost the four-game set 3–1.
The Hilltoppers trailed early after Lubbock Christian scored in each of the first three innings, including a pair of home runs that built a 5-0 lead through three. St. Edward's began to respond in the middle innings, getting on the board with a solo home run from
NICO RUEDAS in the fourth before cutting into the deficit in the fifth.
DYLAN TATE delivered a two-run homer, and Ruedas later tripled and scored to bring the Hilltoppers within one at 5-4.
The momentum shifted immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Lubbock Christian answered with five runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Freddie Nolen, to push the lead back to 10-4. The Chaparrals added five more runs in the sixth, extending the margin to double digits.
St. Edward's added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from
DAVID RIPPLE, but could not close the gap. Ruedas finished with three hits, including a home run, triple, and double, while Tate drove in two runs as part of an eight-hit effort for the Hilltoppers.
Lubbock Christian totaled 13 hits and five home runs in the game, using two big innings to pull away and secure the series win.
