Long Leads Hilltoppers at LSC Outdoor Championships

CANYON, Texas — Competing against one of the deepest women's track and field conferences in Division II, the St. Edward's women's track and field team closed the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships with a finals appearance, a personal-best performance, and a season-high relay mark across three days in Canyon, Texas.

DELANEY LONG delivered the Hilltoppers' top championship finish, qualifying for the 1500-meter finals after running 4:53.62 in the preliminaries. She held steady in 10th place at 4:58.02 in Saturday's final against a field loaded with regional contenders and nationally-ranked programs. Long also added a 2:21.98 finish in the 800-meter preliminaries.

The Hilltopper sprint group continued to show progress against one of the fastest conference fields in the country. JASMINE COOKE ran 12.22 in the 100-meter preliminaries and 25.31 in the 200-meter preliminaries, while MYOSIA VIRGIN clocked 15.07 in the 100-meter hurdles. The conference meet featured multiple NCAA provisional and automatic qualifying marks across the sprint and hurdle events, underscoring the depth of the field St. Edward's faced throughout the weekend.

St. Edward's closed the championships with one of its strongest relay performances of the outdoor season, as the 4x400-meter relay team of SARAH-CATHERINE CHAPMAN, EMORY LIMUEL, JASMINE COOKE, and ISABELLA BICKHAM posted a season-best 3:55.84.

In the distance events, VICTORIA HOYT recorded a personal-best 41:39.27 in the 10,000 meters, while ADRIANA RODRIGUEZ followed in 42:24.23. JENNA SAUNDERS competed in both the 1500-meter preliminaries and the 5000 meters, crossing in 20:01.58 in the latter.

LAUREN SANCHEZ added a 5.16-meter mark in the long jump, while LORENA CERDA posted a 10.43-meter effort in the triple jump for the Hilltoppers.

Defending national power West Texas A&M Lady Buffs entered the weekend ranked No. 2 nationally and pursued a sixth consecutive outdoor conference title, while programs like Angelo State Rambelles and Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas added national-level depth throughout the meet.
