Marks leaves for UT-Pan American head coaching job

AUSTIN , Texas -St. Edward's Athletic Director Debbie Taylor has announced that Ryan Marks has resigned as Head Men's Basketball coach on Friday. Marks will take over as the Head Coach at Texas-Pan American. "Leaving St. Edward's after five incredible years on the hilltop has been the most gut-wrenching, professional decision that I have ever faced," Marks said. "I have such warm feelings about every facet of the St. Edward's Community. Most of all, it is a special place because of its people. From administration to faculty, staff and students, everyone has been big part of my life for the last five years. I especially want to thank my outstanding athletic director, Debbie Taylor and all of my athletic department colleagues." Marks had one of the most successful five-year runs in St. Edward's history as he led the Hilltoppers to a 91-54 record, which included three-straight Heartland Conference Titles, three NCAA Regional Tournaments berths, and three-straight 20-win seasons. He will take over a program that finished 10-17 last season. He takes over for former head coach Tom Schuberth who compiled a 42-47 record in the past three seasons at the helm. "I am obviously elated to have this opportunity at UT-Pan American," Marks said. "Trying to build their program into one that can win their conference is certainly an exciting challenge for a new head coach." Prior to his arrival, St. Edward's had never been to a NCAA basketball tournament. This past season marked their fourth consecutive winning season, a feat that hadn't been accomplished since 1959-62. "This is a tremendous loss for St. Edward's University," Taylor said. "Coach Marks brought more to the hilltop than just winning basketball games. His enthusiasm for St. Edward's traditions and interaction with the campus community was instrumental in generating school spirit across campus. Our loss is their gain - they are getting a great man and coach."
