Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Junior forward RACHEL MURRAY notched two goals to lead #10 St. Edward's past Heartland Conference rival Newman Thursday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field. The victory came on a rain-soaked field and it was the third-straight victory for the Hilltoppers.
 
Murray wasted no time, as she scored in the third minute of the contest. Murray dribbled in to the right corner of the box and sent a shot far post that found its mark for her eighth goal of the season.
 
The Hilltoppers would catch a break in the 23^rd minute when ANNA OWEN sent a cross into the box that bounced, and then skipped right over the head of the Jet goalkeeper for her first goal as a Hilltopper. TAYLOR WISEMAN picked up the assist on the play.
 
Just three minutes later, LAUREN HELLER got loose on a breakaway and scored off of an assist by VALENCIA MOBLEY  for her team-leading 11^th goal of the season. That was all the scoring in the first half as St. Edward's outshot the Jets, 12-1.
 
In the second half, Wiseman got a goal of her own in the 52^nd minute when she hit a one-timer off of a cross through the box by Mobley to make it 4-0.
 
Murray capped off the scoring in the 60^th minute when she ripped a shot from 25 yards out over the keepers head for a 5-0 advantage.
 
“It was important for us to get off to a fast start with the bad weather coming in,” head coach Nick Cowell said. " We were real happy with our performance in the first half. It allowed us to play some players in the second half that don't normally get as much playing time.”
 
St. Edward's rattled off 23 shots and held Newman to just one shot.
 
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday when they host Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff is set for noon at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live stats and video will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
