AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's volleyball team picked up another Battle of the Saints win Saturday on Senior Day, defeating St. Mary's in four, 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, and 25-19.

In the first set, both teams played strong early on with St. Edward's (17-9, 10-4 HC) taking advantage of hitting errors from St. Mary's (17-11, 6-8 HC). With the Hilltoppers up, 11-9, a kill from senior Ale'tra Ware ignited an 8-1 run that gave St. Edward's a commanding lead, 19-10. The Rattlers looked for a response, but with the Hilltoppers up by six, 20-14, a kill from HANNAH RAUCH followed by a service ace from senior LAURA COLLEY started a five-point run that led to the 25-15 set win.

Early in the second set, St. Mary's held its own, keeping up with the Hilltoppers, leading 6-5. Down by one, a kill from senior MEREDITH BARD sparked a four-point run to put St. Edward's up, 9-6. The Rattlers would not go down easily as their offense kicked in, holding off the Hilltoppers from any long rallies. Both teams traded leads, tying the set for the final time, 22-22. Two kills for St. Mary's and a miscue from St. Edward's gave the Rattlers set two, 25-22.

The teams kept the up-beat tempo into the third set, exchanging points until a kill from MARY KOEHLER started a 6-1 rally to give St. Edward's the lead, 10-4. The lead proved to be enough as the Rattlers were unable to come within reach, as the Hilltoppers would go on to win, 25-18.

St. Edward's came out with a bang in the fourth set with back-to-back kills from Bard, Rauch and Ware to jump to an early 3-0 lead. St. Mary's looked for a spark of its own, but had to settle for short rallies to stay within reach of the Hilltoppers. With St. Edward's at match point, 24-17, a late challenge from the Rattlers came with two kills from Jenna Paul but Rauch eliminated any long rally as her 18th kill of the match gave the Hilltoppers the win, 25-19.
Leaders for St. Edward's were Koehler who tallied another double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs, and Bard who finished with 11 kills. Seniors MARY MCNAMARA and MICHELLE HUNDT collected 28 assists and 28 digs, respectively.
The senior class led the Hilltoppers to a 10-4 finish in conference play as they travel to Fort Smith, Ark. for the Heartland Conference Volleyball Torunament.
