St. Edward’s downs cross-town foe Huston-Tillotson, 90-68

AUSTIN, Texas TYLER FOSTER and SHIMEEK JOHNSON each had 16 points to lead five players in double figures as St. Edward's blitzed cross-town foe Huston-Tillotson, 90-68, Tuesday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
 
St. Edward's (3-1) raced out to a quick 18-5 lead in the first five minutes of action as Johnson tallied seven points during the run. He canned a jumper, a breakaway dunk and a three-pointer during the span that gave the Hilltoppers the 13-point advantage.
 
Huston-Tillotson (0-2) would fight back by scoring the next eight points to make it 18-13, but St. Edward's responded with a 16-6 run that led up to the 6:02 mark of the first half and gave them a 34-19 lead. The lead would stay in double digits the rest of the way.
 
In the second half, St. Edward's scored the first eight points of the period and increased its lead to 55-34, with 17:23 left in the contest. Johnson and ZILIJAN JONES each had three points.
 
The lead would keep growing and reached its high-water mark with 8:07 remaining in the game. A three-pointer by JEFF CAMPBELL gave the Hilltoppers an 80-48 lead. The lead would dip no lower than 19 points as St. Edward's cruised to its third victory of the season.
 
Foster was 4-for-6 from downtown, while Johnson also made four treys. Campbell also made four shots from behind the arc for 12 points, while Nussman picked up his first double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to take on NCAA Division I Rice. Tip-off set for 7 p.m. at the Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. Live Video and Stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
