SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
CHRIS WACKER tallied 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead St. Edward's to a 75-62 victory over Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center. The win avenged an earlier-season loss to the Cardinals in Austin.
Wacker, who was making his first start of the season, registered career bests in both points and rebounds. The 6-7 forward did most of his damage in the second half, when he scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Five Hilltoppers were in double-figures, which included 16 from
JAMES STUKES, 12 from
SHIMEEK JOHNSON, 11 by
JEFF CAMPBELL and 10 by
HARLEY NUSSMAN.
St. Edward's only shot 40 percent for the game, but it held Incarnate Word to a 34 percent shooting afternoon. The also outrebounded Incarnate Word, 51-35, which included 11 offensive board.
St. Edward's will be back in action Thursday when they open up Heartland Conference play against Arkansas-Fort Smith at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Ark. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Live Video and Stats will be available on the Lion Athletic Website.
