Streaking Hilltoppers pick-up third-straight win, 76-44

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's basketball team defeated Northwood 76-44 at the Recreation and Convocation Center on Tuesday evening. The win pushed the Hilltoppers' win streak to three.
 
St. Edward's (6-3) quickly jumped to a 7-0 lead during the first three minutes of action. SARAH KENDRICK accounted for the bucket that came nine seconds after the opening tip. STEPHANIE DEKKERS then found a streaking MADDIE WHEELER to score another easy two points. DAWN KIEL continued her success from beyond the arc and swished a three-point basket for the quick seven-point advantage.
 
CASEY RILEY found her stroke at the 15:00 minute mark of the first period. Riley connected on back-to-back shots from three-point land to extend the Hilltopper lead, 16-7. After Riley's baskets, the Hilltoppers found an offensive groove that allowed them to go on 18-4 run over the course of 11 minutes of play and eventually close the half with a 36-15 lead over the Knights.
 
The second half started similar to the first, but it was MONICA JAMES scoring a layup just nine seconds into the action. Shortly thereafter, Kiel connected on jumper from the short corner. St. Edward's extended its lead, 50-20 with 14:59 remaining.
 
The Knights cut into the Hilltopper lead, but HALEY MEEKINS grabbed an offensive board and capitalized on an and-one opportunity to again put the Hilltoppers ahead, 53-23. Northwood continued to battle and chip away at the lead, but KENDRA FIELD ceased the Knight run with a three-point basket at the 9:23 mark. 
 
The Hilltoppers and Knights exchanged baskets for the remainder of the game. St. Edward's cruised to 76-44 win, capturing its sixth victory of the season.
 
Kiel led all scorers with 20 points. She also hauled in seven rebounds in just 23 minutes of action. Kendrick contributed 12 points going 5-for-6 from the field. ERIKA ROUSCULP recorded another solid game with 11 points and five rebounds. Riley finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. VALENCIA WHITE led all rebounders with nine. The Hilltopper defense did not allow any Knight player to reach double figures.
 
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 16 as they travel to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm at the Kingsville Hampton Inn Court on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Campus. Live video and stats will be available through the Javelina website.
