Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The #3 St. Edward's women's soccer team turned in another dominating performance on Thursday evening as they shut out Newman, 4-0, at Wilkins Field.
St. Edward's (8-0) controlled the action in the first half as they outshot Newman, 12-0. The Hilltoppers would get on the board in the 31
st minute when
ARI GARCIA took a cornerkick. She found
KELLY DAVIS who flicked it on to
NICOLE GOSTIC, who struck it past the Jet Keeper for a 1-0 Hilltopper lead.
In the second half,
RACHEL MURRAY found
LAUREN HELLER down the middle of the field in the 58
th minute for a breakaway goal. The goal tied her with Murray for the Hilltopper season lead at five.
TAYLOR SETTECERRI scored her third goal of the season in the 68
th minute off of a cross by Davis.
EMILY WRIGHT would cap off the scoring with her first career goal in the 86
th minute on a through-pass by
JACKIE MARTINEZ.
As for the Hilltoppers, they are off to the best start in school history. In 2011, St. Edward's started the season with victories in its first five matches. This season, the Hilltoppers have been dominant, outscoring their opponents, 30-3, and outshooting the opposition, 161-54. They are averaging 3.75 goals per match.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on the road against Heartland Conference newcomer Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff is set for noon in Oklahoma City, Okla. for this non-conference matchup.
