Lauren Heller
Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – LAUREN HELLER's goal in double-overtime gave the St. Edward's women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Heartland Conference opponent Newman on Monday afternoon. Heller scored the "golden goal" with just five seconds remaining in the match off an assist from RACHEL MURRAY. The Hilltoppers improve to 9-0-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Heartland Conference.

St. Edward's outshot the Jets 26-3 for the match, but had trouble finding the net for the second straight match.  The Hilltopper offense put pressure on the Jets defense, led by goalkeeper Haley Borchers, early in the match.  In the 15th minute, Murray had an attempt saved by Borchers. Murray sent the following cornerkick in the direction of MEGAN ANDERSON, but Anderson's header attempt went high. Heller's first of four shot attempts hit the post in the 20th minute.

St. Edward's had two more chances in the 31st minute. KATIE DONAHUE had a shot go high and RIANA SOOBADOO's attempt was saved by Borchers. Donahue was whistled for a yellow card in the 34th minute. The Hilltoppers went into halftime tied 0-0.

In the second half, St. Edward's outshot the Jets 9-3, but were unable to score due in large part to Borchers' four saves in the half. AMBER GUENTHER had her attempt saved by Borchers in the 52nd minute. MIKAYLA ENGEL, scorer of the "golden goal" on Saturday against Rogers State, had her attempt saved by Borchers in the 78th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper LORRIE SANTOY replaced DANIELLE LICARIONE at halftime and played the rest of the way. Santoy made two saves in the second half to preserve the tie heading into overtime.

The Hilltoppers outshot the Jets 5-0 in the first overtime period. In the 93rd minute, a header attempt by CAILYN TRAPANI went wide right. Heller had a shot go high in the 95th minute.

The second overtime period saw three more attempts by St. Edward's. Engel had another attempt saved by Borchers in the 107th minute. With the clock running out, Heller would have the Hilltoppers' last chance at a goal and the win. Heller received a cross from Murray and sent the ball past Borchers to the left side of the goal for the "golden goal."

The Hilltoppers will be back in action next Monday (10/21) as they host Heartland Conference opponent McMurry. Kick off is set for 2:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through the Hiltopper Athletic website.
