Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's couldn't overcome an early goal in the second period as they dropped their first Heartland Conference match this season to Lubbock Christian, 1-0. The Hilltoppers are now 10-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the Heartland Conference.
St. Edward's had an early opportunity to take the lead when senior captain
MATT MCLAUGHLIN took a shot at the 6:25 mark, but it was saved by the Chaps goalkeeper.
DANIEL RILEY and
KARL DEZOETEN each had chances of their own several minutes later but their shots were either saved by the keeper or blocked.
KYLE RUCK and Coleton Stymeist each had header attempts of their own, but both attempts sailed high. The Hilltoppers were in danger of allowing the initial goal when the Chaps had two corner kick opportunities early. The shots off the corner kicks were blocked and the score remained tied.
JOSH TAYLOR checked into the match during the halfway mark of the period and he made an immediate impact. Taylor's first opportunity went wide left and Chaps goalkeeper Erik Mozzo saved his second attempt.

HAIDEN STILES provided a burst for St. Edward's late in the first period. He had a header attempt go wide left and a cornerkick that provided
ADAM BONVILLE and
JOSH TAYLOR with shots, but neither found the back of the net.
Lubbock Christian broke the tie during the 48
th minute with a goal by Billy Forbes. Forbes beat St. Edward's goalkeeper
JOHN KASCHAK on a 3 vs. 2 advantage off of a cross. Forbes leads the Heartland Conference with 16 goals for the season.
St. Edward's felt the sense of urgency to tie the game and it was obvious with the aggressive nature of play. During the 53
rd minute, the Hilltoppers had four corner kicks and a shot opportunity, but couldn't convert.
Later in the match, St. Edward's had three corner kick opportunities but only generated one shot and it was blocked.
ADAM BONVILLE attempted the shot.
ANDERSON MCDANIEL had the final opportunity for St. Edward's during the 88
th minute. He delivered the corner kick and Riley was able to make contact with the header, but it was high and the Hilltoppers would fall, 1-0.
