Offensive struggles continue for the Hilltoppers dropping their second doubleheader of the weekend

(Game 1)
How it happened
-Colorado Christian got off to a quick start in the first inning, but couldn't generate any runs, leaving two runners on base.
-Cydney Irving got the Hilltoppers in the hit column in the third inning, but a MARISSA THOME lineout left Ervin stranded.
-The Cougars scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning. EMILY MAYFIELD gave up three hits and walked two batters during the inning. The Hilltopper defense was able to escape the inning baring any more damage, as Colorado Christian left two runners on base.
-Throughout the next four innings, St. Edward's was only able to manage one hit and left two runners on base as Geniveve Reyna completed a two-hit shutout.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-EMILY MAYFIELD went the distance throwing a total of 97 pitches in her second loss of the season.
-The two hits on the afternoon is the lowest total of hits on the young 2013 season.
 
(Game 2)
How it happened
-The Hilltoppers got out of an early jam in the second inning. The Cougars were able to get two hits and load the bases, but the St. Edward's defense stiffened and got out of the inning unscathed.
-Thome singled to the shortstop in the fourth inning. KACI OLSON reached on a fielder's choice. ALLY VALDEZ would bring in Olson on her single to right field and give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.
-Melanie Lusi answered with a two-run home to left field that just snuck over the left field fence. The Cougars led 2-1.
-St. Edward's tied the game up in bottom of the seventh inning. KP PERCH singled to center field. After several batters, Thome stepped up to the plate with two outs and swung at the first pitch. The shortstop couldn't get a hold of the ball that allowed Perch to score the tying run.
-Jackie Sanzalone advanced to third after Alyssa Zimmerman doubled down the  right field line. Two runs were scored on behalf of an Alexa Coffing single to center field. The Cougars went into the bottom of the eight inning leading 4-2.
-ALLY VALDEZ got the lone hit for the Hilltoppers in the bottom of the inning and was left stranded on second base. KP PERCH flied out to right field for the games final out.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-St. Edward's has now dropped six games in a row, which is longest losing streak under the Lindsay Gardner era and most since the 2011 season.
-The Hilltoppers responded in the second game of the doubleheader with eight total hits, but left seven runners on base.
 
Up Next
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Saturday morning for a doubleheader against Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The first pitch is set for 9:00 am, while the second game will start 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. Live video and stats will be available through the Hilltopper website.
