How it Happened
-The Hilltoppers produced a run in the first inning. A single by ALLY VALDEZ to right field brought in MARISSA THOME from second base.
-St. Edward's made it 2-0 in the third inning. Again it was Thome who crossed home plate. This time it was off a double down the left field line by LAUREN BRODE.
-In the fifth inning, the Hilltoppers extended the lead to 3-0. First, KACI OLSON tripled down the left field line. Olson was brought home on a sacrifice fly to center field by LAUREN BRODE.
-Texas Woman's narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Kendra Sancet hit a two RBI homerun that also brought home Katie Hines.
-Pitcher SARAH DEBROW secured the win in the seventh inning. Debrow forced Sarah Wittenbur to foul out to first and then she struck out Haley Colwell. The final out came on a ground out by Amanda Rulz.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-As the lead off hitter, Thome had two hits to bring her season total to 14, which is second best on the team.
-Debrow stuck out eight batters to improve to 4-5 on the season. Debrow allowed just four hits in the game.
 
 
(GAME 2 vs Texas A&M Kingsville)
 
How It Happened
-Each team scored one in the first inning. Texas A&M Kingsville's run came off a solo home run to left field by Adela Gomez. St. Edward's benefited from a fielding error by pitcher Denise Arnold off a hit by ALLY VALDEZ. The error brought home Thome.
-The Hilltoppers added a second run in the third inning. A single down the left field line brought home Olsen.
- Texas A&M Kingsville took back the lead in the fourth inning. Jaleen Castro hit a two RBI homerun to left center that also brought in Carynn Gonzales.
-Neither team scored in the remaining three innings. St. Edward's left at least one runner on base in each of these innings.
-In the seventh inning, a Valdez double to right center put a runner in scoring position. The third and final out occurred on a ground out by Herman. 
 
Beyond the Box Score
 -Pitcher KATELYN KLUG made her first start of the season. Klug had four strike outs in a losing effort.
-Designated hitter Valdez added two more hits in this game and one against Texas Woman's. Valdez now leads the Hilltoppers with 15 hits.
 
Up Next
St. Edward's will be back in action Sunday on the final day of the Hilltopper Classic. They will play TAMU-Kingsville at 1 p.m. and Texas Woman's at 3 p.m. both at Diane Daniels Field.
