How it Happened (Game 1)
-St. Edward's struck first in the first inning thanks to two mistakes by St. Mary's. First, KACI OLSON reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. Marisa Thome advanced to second on the play. Next, Olson and Thome each advanced on a wild pitch. Thome scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by LAUREN BRODE.
-The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. LAURA ALVARADO singled to right field. Alvarado advanced to second on CYDNEY ERVIN's single to the shortstop. The bases were loaded when Thome walked. Olson's single to right field brought home Alvarado and Ervin. Olson and Thome were left on base after Brode struck out swinging.
-St. Mary's had two runners on in the fourth inning, but third baseman BRIANNA BOZON turned a double play off a hit by Alex Rodriguez to end the inning.
-The Hilltoppers defense turned another double play in the fifth inning. With a runners on first and second, K.P. Perch pulled off an unassisted double play off a line out by Nicole Sardelich.
-In the seventh inning, the Hilltoppers loaded the bases with Alvarado, Thome, and Perch. All runners were left on base when FAITH ROBERTS grounded out to third base.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-By the second inning, the Hilltoppers had already eclipsed their total of two runs scored in yesterday's doubleheader against St. Mary's
-KATELYN KLUG earned the shutout and improves to 6-8 on the year. Klug struck out two batters on the day.
-St. Edward's finishes second in the Heartland Conference with an 11-3 conference record. St. Mary's finishes first with a 14-1 conference record and will host the Heartland Conference Tournament.

St. Edward's will be back in action starting Thursday at the SAISD Spring Sports Complex. The Heartland Conference Tournament will run from Thursday to Saturday. The Hilltoppers will enter the tournament as the #2 seed and will face Texas A&M-International on Thursday. Game times have yet to be determined. Check the Hilltopper Athletic Website for updates.
