Hilltoppers notch 3-1 win in Kim Yeatts Memorial Classic

AUSTIN, Texas –
The St. Edward's Women's Soccer team defeated Texas Woman's University 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the Kim Yeatts Memorial Classic. The Hilltoppers completed the opening weekend with a 2-0 record.
 
In the first half, St. Edward's took nine shots compared to just one by Texas Woman's. The Hilltoppers tested Texas Woman's goalkeeper Lindsey Sisco early in the half. In the 22nd minute, Sisco saved KATIE DONAHUE's shot. Sisco also saved a header by JESSICA TRAVES in the 27th minute.
 
In the 33rd minute, the Hilltoppers put the first goal on the board when CAILYN TRAPANI beat the keeper from 25 yards out. MEGAN ANDERSON assisted on Trapani's fourth goal of the year. The first half would end with the Hilltoppers up 1-0.
 
Less than two minutes into the second half, LAUREN HELLER tapped in a cross from RACHEL MURRAY to put St. Edward's up 2-0. The Hilltoppers continued to open fire on the goal with 11 shot attempts coming in the second half. Shots by AMBER GUENTHER and VALENCIA MOBLEY each sailed high in the 55th minute.  
 
In the 68th minute, the Hilltoppers made it 3-0 when MEGAN ANDERSON beat the keeper from 25 yards out off an assist from KELLY DAVIS.
 
The St. Edward's defense looked poised to hold another shutout until Texas Woman's Tareyn Blanton beat freshman goalkeeper LORRIE SANTOY to the far post. The Hilltoppers had a few more chances to add another goal late in the game, but came up empty. Trapani had a shot saved by the keeper in the 84th minute. The keeper also saved AMANDA TABONE's shot in the 88th minute.
 
The Hilltoppers now travel to Denver, Colo. to take on Metro State on September 13 at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available through the Roadrunner Athletic website.
