Hilltoppers fall to Dallas Baptist, 76-68

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's men's basketball team fell to Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist, 76-68, Thursday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center. RAMIR BURTON led all scorers with 23 points but that was not enough to overcome the Patriots.
 
St. Edward's (7-11, 3-7 HC) opened the game on a 12-5 run in the first six minutes of action. Burton led the way with five points and ended the run with a three-point play.
 
Dallas Baptist (7-10, 4-6 HC) outscored the Hilltoppers, 27-13, over the next 10 minutes. The Patriots hit four shots from behind the arc to spark the run that gave the visitors a 32-25 lead, with 3:49 left in the first half.
 
Burton got the Hilltoppers back in the contest, scoring nine points in the final three minutes of action to knot the score, 41-41, with 28 seconds remaining. JOHN GRAMLICH had seven points during the same stanza to help the cause, which included two treys.
 
Jonathan Perry's layup as the clock expired gave Dallas Baptist a 43-41 advantage at intermission.
 
In the second half, the Patriots extended its lead to five points, 59-54, at the 13:10 mark, but St. Edward's answered with treys by Burton and JOHN RUTHERFORD that gave St. Edward's a one-point lead, 60-59, with 9:05 left in the game.
 
The Patriots took it from there, outscoring the home team, 17-8 the rest of the way. St. Edward's went cold from the field, making only four buckets in the final nine-plus minutes.
 
Burton was 9-for-16 from the floor, but just 2-of-7 from downtown. He also tied for the team lead in assists with four, along with Gramlich. HARLEY NUSSMAN ended the night with a double-double, registering 11 points and 11 rebounds, while JAMES STUKES tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday when they host Heartland Conference rival Oklahoma Christian. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
