St. Edward's Sweeps Panhandle State, 3-0
AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's volleyball team earned a three-set victory over Heartland Conference rival Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
Fresh off their first victory this season on Wednesday evening, Panhandle State came to the RCC looking for another win. St. Edward's had plans of its own.
The first and second sets played out in similar fashion as the Hilltoppers made quick work of the Aggies. In the opening set, St. Edward's registered a hitting percentage of .458 to win 25-8.
Panhandle State had no response for the Hilltoppers in the second set, as they were held to -.120 hitting percentage and just three kills. The home team defeated the visitors 25-9.
The Aggies came alive in set three. They came within two points down the stretch, but a timeout called by St. Edward's gave the Hilltoppers a chance to break Panhandle State's momentum. Three kills from Hilltopper
MARY KOEHLER gave St. Edward's a 25-19 edge.
Koehler led the team with 11 kills and eight digs.
AVALON FRANTZ and
JACLYN BILLIE shared setting duties, tallying 13 and 11 assists respectively.
KELLY JIMENEZ had a match-high 17 digs.
The Hilltoppers play again Friday evening as they host Angelo State at 5 p.m. in the Recreation and Convocation Center. The squad will be celebrating their Annual Dig Pink Night. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
