AUSTIN, Texas – The 43
rd-ranked St. Edward's women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to #19 Midwestern State Friday afternoon at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Centers.
St. Edward's (0-2) got started on the right foot, winning at number one doubles, 8-2.
BROOKE HUGHES and
SASHA KHADZHYAN teamed up at that position to defeat Amy Clifton and Courtney Anderson. Midwestern State (1-0) would win the following two doubles matches.
In singles play, the Mustangs got straight-set victories at the numbers four through six positions. Rafaela Hagele fell in a superset tiebreaker after Midwestern State has clinched the team match.
Khadzhyan defeated Amy Clifton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at the number one position. Hughes lost the first set, but rallied to win the final two, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they host Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.
