Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team split its two games on Saturday, the second day of the 2014 St. Edward's Invitational. The Hilltoppers beat Regis 10-2 in the morning matchup. In the afternoon game, St. Edward's lost to Chadron State, 4-3 in extra innings.
 
St. Edward's (9-5) recorded 14 hits in the 10-2 win over Regis. The Hilltoppers added one run in the first inning when CYDNEY ERVIN scored off a sacrifice fly out by KENDALL LUCAS.
 
St. Edward's put up four runs off four hits in the second inning. MARISA BOGART got things started with a single to left field. A double by EMILY MAYFIELD to left center advanced Bogart to third. KACI OLSON bunted for a single, but the other two runners did not advance a base. A single to right field by ALEX MAYFIELD brought home Bogart and E. Mayfield and allowed Olson to advance to third on the play. While Ervin was at-bat, A. Mayfield stole second. Ervin reached first on a fielder's choice bunt to the pitcher. The Regis pitcher made a throwing error that allowed Olson and A. Mayfield to score. The score after two innings was 5-0.
 
Regis responded with two runs in the third inning. A single to left center by Wilcox scored Illias and King. The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the third inning to push the lead to 7-2. A double to left field by Bogart brought home and GABRIELA MACIAS. A sacrifice fly by KP PERCH scored LAUREN BRODE.
 
St. Edward's added two more runs in the fourth inning. A double to left field by E. Mayfield scored Brode and Macias. The Hilltoppers made it 10-2 in the sixth inning when a fly out by E. Mayfield scored Brode.
 
The afternoon contest against Chadron State was lost in extra innings, 4-3. Chadron State scored one run in the first inning when Jessica Eatmon singled to right center to score Rebekah Anthony. St. Edward's scored two runs in the first to take a 2-1 lead. Lucas singled up the middle to score Ervin. Next, FAITH ROBERTS doubled to right center to score Lucas.
 
Chadron State scored two runs in the fourth inning to gain a 3-2 lead. Taylor Bauer singled to left center to score Caroline Johnson. Then, Anthony scored an unearned run off an error by St. Edward's third baseman Brode.
 
The Hilltoppers evened the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning when E. Mayfied scored a single to the pitcher by CAITIE CARNEY. The game went into extra innings when neither team could add a run in the sixth or seventh inning.
 
Chadron State made it 4-3 in the eighth inning when a double to left center by Sarah Knudsen scored Courtney Lecher.  St. Edward's looked to match the score in the bottom of the eighth inning. A sacrifice ground out by Roberts advanced Carney to third. Brode would foul out to third while Bogart grounded out to the second baseman for the final out.
 
St. Edward's resumes action tomorrow in the final day of the 2014 Hilltopper Classic. The Hilltoppers will face Texas Woman's at 3:45 pm. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
