Hilltoppers drop doubleheader to #6 Texas Woman’s

Box Score DENTON, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team lost both games of its doubleheader against #6 Texas Woman's on Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers lost game one 5-0 and game two, 5-1.
 
In game one, St. Edward's (11-8) put two runners on base in the top of the fourth inning. EMILY MAYFIELD walked and advanced to second off a single to left field by CAITIE CARNEY. Both runners were left on base when LAUREN BRODE struck out for the third out.
 
Texas Woman's made it 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Beeman scored off a sacrifice fly to left field by Wittenburg.
 
Texas Woman's (13-3) added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Ruiz tripled to right center to score Farquhar. Ruiz scored off a ground out by Hines to make it 3-0. Vrazel scored off a single to right field by Wittenburg. A single to left field by Galaz scored Sancet to give Texas Woman's a commanding 5-0 lead.
 
St. Edward's managed four hits in the loss. KATELYN KLUG fell to 5-3 on the year.
 
In game two, Texas Woman's scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Vrazel scored off a single to right field by Hines. Next, Galaz hit a homer to left field that scored Hines and Sancet.
 
Texas Woman's added a run in the third inning to make it 5-0. Sancet scored off a single up the middle by Galaz.
 
The Hilltoppers set up a great opportunity for a run in the fourth inning. FAITH ROBERTS singled to left field and advanced to second a fielding error by the left fielder. GABRIELA MACIAS pinch ran for Roberts and advanced to third on a passed ball. The next three batters were unable to get on base and Macias was left on third.
 
St. Edward's scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 5-1. Carney singled to center field and was replaced as a runner by E. Mayfield. Brode singled to left field to score Mayfield.
 
SARAH DEBROW struck out three batters while falling to 6-5 on the year.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action on Friday when they open Heartland Conference play versus Newman. First pitch at Diane Daniels Field is set for 3:30 pm. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
