Box Score ODESSA, TEXAS – The St. Edward's men's basketball team could not get its shots to drop as it fell on the road to UT-Permian Basin, 79-55, Thursday evening at the Falcon Dome.
UT-Permian Basin (16-9, 10-7 HC) raced out to a 16-6 advantage in the game's first seven minutes. Dewayne Soders had the hot hand for the Falcons with eight points during the stretch.
Three free throws by
JOHN GRAMLICH and
RAMIR BURTON help keep St. Edward's (10-15, 6-11 HC) close, cutting the lead to seven points, 16-9, with just over 12 minutes left.
UT-Permian Basin erased that mini rally and embarked on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take control of the first half, 30-11. Soders was again the catalyst, scoring six points, while Phadarius Taylor added four points.
The Falcons would keep their advantage for the rest of the half and go in to the break with a 48-27 lead.
After shooting just 26 percent in the first half, the Hilltoppers didn't fare much better in the second, shooting only 27 percent.
UT-Permian Basin would increase its lead to 20 points in the first couple of minutes and didn't look back.
RAMIR BURTON led the Hilltoppers with 22 points, while
JOHN RUTHERFORD and Gramlich each scored five points.
HARLEY NUSSMAN led St. Edward's with seven rebounds.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas for their season finale. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Chaps Athletic Website.
