Hilltoppers split on day two of 2014 Charger Chill Out

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The St. Edward's softball team split its two games on the second day of the 2014 Charger Chill Out. The Hilltoppers lost to #9 Alabama-Huntsville, 7-1 in the first game. Later in the day, St. Edward's beat Delta State, 7-0.
 
St. Edward's (5-4) played against the tournament's host, #9 Alabama-Huntsville, in the first game. Alabama-Huntsville converted five hits into four runs in the second inning. Nicole Bobrowski and Victoria Frith had the two hits that drove in the runs. The Chargers added three more runs in the fourth inning. Frith picked up her third RBI of the game with a single to center field. Mary Kelly drove in two runs with a double to right center.
 
FAITH ROBERTS hit a solo home run to left center in the fourth inning to put the Hilltoppers on the board. Roberts now has a team-best two home runs including yesterday's homer against West Georgia. KATELYN KLUG was credited with the loss and now sits at 3-1 on the year.
 
In game two, the Hilltoppers beat Delta State, 7-0. ALEX MAYFIELD started the game off with a triple to right center. A. Mayfield scored off a ground out by KENDALL LUCAS.
 
St. Edward's added three runs in the second inning. MARISA BOGART singled to center field and EMILY MAYFIELD singled to left center to give the Hilltoppers runners on first and second. A. Mayfield singled to the pitcher to bring home Bogart. Next, A. Mayfield stole second and E. Mayfield stole home. A double to right center by CYDNEY ERVIN scored A. Mayfield.
 
The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-0. Lucas singled to shortstop to bring home Ervin. Bogart singled to third base to bring home GABRIELA MACIAS. St. Edward's made it 7-0 in the seventh inning when a triple to right center by Bogart scored LAUREN BRODE.
 
SARAH DEBROW improves to 2-3 on the year after striking out six batters in a full game's work. The Hilltoppers' 12 hits and six RBIs are both season-highs. 
 
St. Edward's resumes action tomorrow in the final day of the 2014 Charger Chill Out. The Hilltoppers will face #7 Indianapolis at 9 a.m. Live stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
