STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Playing without two regulars, the 43rd-ranked St. Edward's women's tennis team fell to #31 Tarleton State, 6-3, Saturday afternoon at the Tarleton Tennis Courts.
St. Edward's (0-1) was already without regular
FRANCESCA CHAHER for the day's match after she injured herself in practice the day before. In doubles action,
BROOKE HUGHES and
SASHA KHADZHYAN easily handled Luisa Adas and Ivana Zecevic, 8-1, at the number one position. Tarleton State would take victory at the number three position. At number two doubles, Rafaela Hagele and
FLORENCE BOINON were locked in a tight match with Alicia Perez and Makenzie Mitchell, 5-4, but Boinon was force to retire with an injury, giving the TexAnns the match and a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Down a player, St. Edward's was forced to default at the number six position. Hughes and Haegele took straight-set wins at the numbers one and three positions, but losses for St. Edward's at the two, four, and five spots gave the match to Tarleton State.
St. Edward's will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Tyler Junior College in a neutral site matchup in Waco, Texas. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
