Olson has big day in Hilltoppers’ 9-1 win over Panhandle State

Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – Second baseman KACI OLSON had three hits and accounted for two RBIs as the St. Edward's softball team beat Oklahoma Panhandle State 9-1 on Saturday afternnoon. The Hilltoppers turned 11 hits into nine runs offensively, and KATELYN KLUG allowed just one run on the mound.
 
St. Edward's (22-11, 7-2 HC) scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. BREAH WHITTEN reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second on the play. Whitten advanced to third on a passed ball and scored off a single to first by Olson. Olson, who advanced to second on her single, was brought home by KENDALL LUCAS' single. Lucas advanced to second on a passed ball and scored off an RBI single by CAITIE CARNEY.
 
Panhandle State scored one run in the first to cut the lead to 3-1. Ward tripled to center field and was brought home by a single to the pitcher by Thompson.
 
The Hilltoppers added four more runs in the second inning to push the lead to 7-1. EMILY MAYFIELD singled to third base and advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by CYDNEY ERVIN. Mayfield advanced to third off a groundout by Whitten. Next, Olson singled to the shortstop to score Mayfield. Olson stole second and score off a double to centerfield by Lucas. Then, FAITH ROBERTS homered to left field to score Lucas. Roberts leads the team with six home runs on the year.
 
St. Edward's made it 8-0 in the third inning when Mayfield tripled to center field to score MARISA BOGART.
 
The Hilltoppers managed another run in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-1. Olson began the inning with a triple to right field. Olson scored when Lucas reached on an error by the third baseman. Olson had not yet gone for multiple hits in one game this season before hitting three today.
 
The game was called after six innings due to the runs rule. Klug struck out five batters and improves to 11-4.
 
St. Edward's will return to action on Friday for a doubleheader matchup against Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. Games are set for 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Check for results on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
