Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team dropped a 7-1 decision to #7 Angelo State in a non-conference matchup Thursday afternoon at Diane Daniels Field.
Angelo State (36-9) struck first, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Darian Dunn laced a double to the gap in left field to plate both runs. The RamBelles added another run in the second inning when Carly Peters homered with one out to make the score, 3-0.
St. Edward's (27-21) got a run back in the bottom of the second inning.
KENDALL LUCAS and
FAITH ROBERTS led off the inning with back-to-back singles. With runners at first and third,
EMILY MAYFIELD lined a shot down the left field line that was caught, but Lucas scored on the sacrifice fly. Pinch runner
LAURA ALVARADO was caught trying to advance to second base on the throw home.
For the next three innings the bats fell silent for both teams, as neither were able to tally any runs.
Angelo State added three insurance runs in the sixth inning on an RBI-double by Monica Spearman and a two-run homer from Dunn to make it 6-1 in favor of the visitors. The RamBelles scored another run in the seventh for the final 7-1 margin.
SARAH DEBROW (14-10) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits, while walking three and striking out six in 5.1 innings of work.
Lucas led the Hilltoppers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
St. Edward's will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas. Live stats will be available on the Javelina Athletic Website.
