Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – BREAH WHITTEN and EMILY MAYFIELD both recorded four hits in the doubleheader against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday evening in Kingsville, Texas. The two teams would split the doubleheader with the Hilltoppers taking the first one, 4-3, but falling in the nightcap, 9-4. St. Edward's is now 28-22 this season.

The Hilltoppers got the bats going during the top of third inning of game one. St. Edward's scored three runs on four hits. MARISA BOGART singled through the left side to start the inning. Bogart advanced to second when CYDNEY ERVIN was out on a sacrifice bunt. BREAH WHITTEN singled to the shortstop, and eventually advanced to second. KACI OLSON tripled to centerfield, allowing Whitten and Bogart to score, giving the Hilltoppers a 2-0 lead. Olson stole home during ALEX MAYFIELD's at bat to extend the lead to 3-0. The inning ended when A. Mayfield tried to steal second, but was out on the play.

St. Edward's pushed its lead to 4-0 when EMILY MAYFIELD homered to left field. It was three up, three down from that point on, as the Javelina pitching staff didn't allow any hits for the remainder of the inning.

The offense continued to click for the Hilltoppers through the fifth and sixth innings of game one, but they couldn't score the runners that were on base. The Hilltoppers allowed TAMU-Kingsville to get back into the game during the sixth inning. St. Edward's committed two errors and the Javelinas scored three runs, narrowing the gap, 4-3.

St. Edward's looked to grab some insurance runs during the top half of the seventh inning, but it was a one, two, three inning for the Hilltoppers. SARAH DEBROW returned the favor during the bottom of the seventh inning, and the Hilltoppers took game one of the doubleheader, 4-3.

TAMU-Kingsville got on the board first during the second game with an RBI-double. The Javelinas led 1-0 after two innings of play. St. Edward's quickly reclaimed the lead during the top of third inning. Ervin and Whitten were both in scoring position. ALEX MAYFIELD got on base via a fielding error, allowing Ervin to score the unearned run.

ALEX MAYFIELD stole second and again the Hilltoppers had two runners in scoring position. KENDALL LUCAS grounded out during her at bat, but Whitten scored the unearned run, giving St. Edward's the 2-1 lead.

TAMU-Kingsville quickly grabbed the lead right back with a three-run homer to right field. It was 4-2 in favor of the Javelinas after three innings. Another three-run bomb by TAMU-Kingsville gave them the 7-2 cushion after the fourth inning.

The Javelinas scored two more runs in the sixth inning to push the lead to 9-2. The Hilltoppers showed toughness in the seventh inning trying to fight back by scoring two runs to trim the Javelina lead to 9-4, but that would be as close as they would get, and St. Edward's dropped game two of the series.

St. Edward's will be back in action on Friday as they return home for another installment of the Battle of the Saints as they take on St. Mary's. Game time is set for 3:30 pm at Diane Daniels Field on the campus of St. Edward's. Live stats and video will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
