Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – ALEX MAYFIELD provided three hits and an RBI in Saturday's afternoon matchup against Oklahoma Christian, however, St. Edward's dropped the final contest of the series, 5-4. The Hilltoppers sit in third place in the Heartland Conference with only two conference series remaining.
 
St. Edward's got on the board first for the third consecutive time in the series. KACI OLSON got on base with a one-out single. Olson advanced to second on the play courtesy of a throwing error in the infield. ALEX MAYFIELD singled to the left field and recorded the RBI as Olson crossed home on the play. The Hilltoppers led 1-0 after the top half of the first inning.
 
Oklahoma Christian answered with a three-run inning in the bottom of the first. Two throwing errors by St. Edward's allowed the Eagles runners to remain on base. The next batter had a three-run homerun to give Oklahoma Christian the 3-1 lead.
 
The Hilltoppers responded with a three-run inning of their own during the top of the second inning to regain the lead, 4-3. Back-to-back singles by FAITH ROBERTS and LAUREN BRODE opened the inning. Both Roberts and Brode advanced into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt from CAITIE CARNEY. Roberts scored on a sacrifice fly from CYDNEY ERVIN.
 
BREAH WHITTEN got on base due to an Eagle error in the second inning. Whitten stole second to advance to scoring position. Olson provided a two-RBI triple to leftfield to bring in Brode and Whitten and regain the lead.
 
The Hilltopper offense was on the attack again in the third inning with two hits, but they left both runners stranded. The St. Edward's defense was tough during the middle innings not allowing a hit for three complete innings.
 
St. Edward's had another opportunity to increase its lead in the fifth inning with a single from ALEX MAYFIELD. She advanced to second base with a steal. Three consecutive outs didn't allow her to advance any further. Oklahoma Christian reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning with two runs on three hits and led 5-4.
 
ALEX MAYFIELD had a two-out single down the left field line in the seventh inning. KENDALL LUCAS followed that with a single of her own, and the Hilltoppers had two runners on base. The threat was neutralized as EMILY MAYFIELD grounded out for the final out of the game and the Hilltoppers fell to the Oklahoma Christian, 5-4.
 
KENDALL LUCAS, KACI OLSON and LAUREN BRODE chipped in two hits each to go along with Mayfield's three hits. Olson had two RBI during the contest. SARAH DEBROW pitched six innings and had three strikeouts.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Texas Women's. The first game is set for 2:00 p.m. at Diane Daniels Field on the St. Edward's campus. Live stats and video will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
