SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Hilltopper women's tennis team opened up fall tournament play this weekend as it took part in the Trinity Invitational Tennis Tournament.
 
Vanessa Camara, Brook Hughes and Sasha Khadzhyan all went a combined 3-1 each in singles and doubles play for the tournament. Camara won both of her singles matches easily defeating Trinity's Paulina Penagos, 6-2, 6-0, and Trinity's Nicole Reub, 6-1, 6-0. She teamed up with Summer Biggs to defeat Trinity's Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White, 8-1.
 
Hughes had a huge comeback in her singles win over Marie Lutz. After dropping the first set, she stormed back to win the second and take the third-set tiebreaker, 0-6, 6-3, 10-7. Khadzhyan won her singles match against Liza Southwick of Trinity, 6-2, 6-2.
 
"This weekend was a good start to the season," second-year head coach Kendall Brooks said. "We got to play a bunch of matches to help get us into the swing of competition. I saw positive things from every single player, and I am excited to get back to work to prepare for next weekend's tournament in Houston."
 
The tournament was cut short due to rain on Friday afternoon so no champions were crowned during the tournament.
