th-ranked St. Edward's Women's Soccer team lost a 1-0 lead on a couple of unlucky breaks as they fell to rival Dallas Baptist, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
The two teams that have either shared or won the Heartland Conference the past five seasons were set for another fierce battle. Dallas Baptist (8-3-2, 3-0-1 HC) had two shots in the early going. KATIE DONAHUE's attempt found
JULIA HARRISON who shot it through a crowd of people and in for a 1-0 lead.
It looked like the Hilltoppers would take their 1-0 lead into halftime but with 10 seconds left on the clock an unlucky handball in the penalty box gave Dallas Baptist a penalty kick. Emilie MacDonald put home the free kick to tie the game at the halfway point.
In the second half, a misplaced header on an attempted clearance by St. Edward's put the ball at the feet of the Patriots' Ashley Cox. The forward tapped the ball into the net for a 2-1 Dallas Baptist lead with just over 35 minutes remaining.
From that point on neither team mustered a serious scoring chance, as the game would end 2-1.
Dallas Baptist outshot the Hilltoppers, 8-5.
