Heller’s two goals lead #25 St. Edward’s past Rogers State, 3-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The St. Edward's women's Soccer team improved to 2-0 in Heartland Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Rogers State Saturday afternoon at Solider Field.

From the opening whistle, St. Edward's (6-2, 2-0 HC) put the pressure on Rogers State immediately. In the eighth minute, LAUREN HELLER notched her second goal of the season. JENNIFER BOUDREAU sent a cross through the box that found Heller who one-timed it to the far post to put St. Edward's ahead, 1-0.

St. Edward's made it 2-0 in the 18th minute when KATIE DONAHUE's cornerkick found the head of midfielder ARI GARCIA. Garcia was able to place the ball through a crowd of defenders and into the net.

Heller struck again in the second half when she scored off a cross from Donahue. GRACEN JACKS got a tip on the ball for a second assist. That would wrap up the scoring as the Hilltoppers tallied their second-straight shutout.

St. Edward's outshot Rogers State, 26-4. Of the four shots they allowed, only one was on goal.

"The team is working to be more of an offensive force, without losing our defensive ability," head coach Nick Cowell said. "Every game, the players understand their role a little better, and we are excited to see how good this team can become."

St. Edward's will be back in action Thursday when they host Texas A&M-International. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
