Hilltoppers look to be clicking at right time

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's Women's Basketball Team looked to be playing at a championship level Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center, as they rolled over Texas A&M-International, 64-42.

St. Edward's (14-6, 8-6 HC) came out with high intensity, and quickly jumped on the Dustdevils, garnering a 21-16 lead, 13 minutes into the contest.

As the half winded down, the Hilltoppers began to pull away from Texas A&M-International (11-12, 7-8 HC), as they played with a greater sense of urgency in this must-win game for both squads.

St. Edward's went to the break with a 32-23 lead. Also, St. Edward's dominated the battle of the boards in the first, 26-15, while also grabbed 11 offensive boards.

The second half would be no different, as the Hilltoppers would continue to move the ball, recording assist after assist.

St. Edward's would dominate the Dustdevils over the duration, rolling to an impressive victory. The Hilltoppers recorded a season-high 19 assists and impressively shared the ball.

LEXI FATHEREE led the charge offensively, as she recorded 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and going 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. More excitingly, the sophomore forward dished out six assists.

Senior, KATHLEEN BRISBANE, who had been limited lately due to injury, seemed to be back to her normal self, as she scored 14 points, had six rebounds, and dished out three assists.

"I was really proud of not only our effort today, but our execution as well. Our ball movement was really good and we did a great job of executing our game plan. Today was a total team effort and I could not be prouder of the ladies," Head Coach J.J. Riehl said of her team.

St. Edward's will be back in action next Thursday, as they travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on first place, Lubbock Christian. Live coverage will be available through the Lady Chaps website and tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
