ODESSA, Texas- The St. Edward's Softball team swept UT-Permian Basin in Thursday's doubleheader. The Hilltoppers took down the Falcons, 4-1 and 6-3.
 
Game 1St. Edward's (20-14, 8-6 HC) struck first against UT-Permian Basin (5-27, 1-12 HC) with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. 
MORGAN DUFOUR and Cydny Ervin were the two Hilltoppers to score courtesy of a sacrifice fly from 
SAMANTHA GILMORE and a single from 
EMILY MAYFIELD.
 
The Falcons answered in the bottom of the fifth with Taylor Clancy scoring off a single through the right side from Nikki Salazar. The tally stood 2-1 to the visitors.
 
With one RBI on the day, 
EMILY MAYFIELD doubled down the left field line as the first batter in the seventh inning. 
LAURA ALVARADO followed with a single to right field, allowing Mayfield time to reach home. Alvarado then scored herself, bringing the score to 4-1.

Game 2Looking for the sweep, St. Edward's stepped up in the second game. In the opening inning, 
FAITH ROBERTS doubled to right field, registering an RBI as Alvarado came home with her second run on the day.
 
From the bottom of the first to the bottom of the fifth, only three hits were registered amongst the two teams. The pitchers, 
KATELYN KLUG for St. Edward's and Kim Alonzo for UT-Permian Basin, battled it out until the game opened up in the sixth inning.
 
The Hilltoppers added to their 1-0 lead with three runs. With Alvarado and 
BREAH WHITTEN on base, 
FAITH ROBERTS homered, registering three RBI. The home team managed to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth with one run from Irene Valdez. The run brought the score to 4-1.
 
St. Edward's kept the pressure on with two runs in the seventh. The Falcons rallied to put up two runs in the final running, but Klug would strike out Adrianna Berzoza for the second out and Chelsae Faries grounded out for the final out in the game. The final score was 6-3.
 
Roberts recorded four RBI in the second game, while Alvarado had two runs and one RBI. Klug registered four strikeouts.
