ODESSA, Texas – St. Edward's senior
SARAH DEBROW etched her name in the Hilltopper record books once again, as she struck out 13 batters in a 6-2 win over UT-Permian Basin Friday afternoon. The 13 strikeouts give Debrow 661 strikeouts, which moves her past former Hilltopper Diana Cezeaux for first place.
Debrow already owns the school's victories record with 67 wins. The victory also gives the Hilltoppers a sweep of the Falcons.
UT-Permian Basin (5-28, 1-13 HC) got on the board first in the first inning with a run on an RBI-double Chelsae Faries.
St. Edward's (21-14, 9-6 HC) fought back with four runs in the second inning.
MORGAN DUFOUR got the scoring started with her 10
th home run of the season to tie the score.
CYDNEY ERVIN singled home the next run to take the lead, 2-1.
KP PERCH busted the game wide open with a pinch-hit two-RBI double to make it, 4-1.
The Hilltoppers pushed two more runs across in the fifth inning when
CAITIE CARNEY squeezed Ervin home on a bunt and
FAITH ROBERTS drove the final run in on a groundout to make it, 6-1.
UT-Permian Basin tried to comeback in the sixth on a home run from Faries, but Debrow shut it down from there.
Debrow allowed two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out career-high tying 13 batters.
St. Edward's will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville. First-pitch for the doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas with live stats available on the Javelina Athletic Website.
