DALLAS –
MADISON MCCLURG's dominant performance Saturday led St. Edward's to a 3-0 sweep of Dallas Baptist and clinched the No. 3 seed for the Heartland Conference Tournament.
McClurg hit .346 on her way to 10 kills, three service aces, five digs, and a pair of solo blocks. On defense sophomore
MORGAN BECKHAM was stellar as well with 22 digs and two assists.
St. Edward's (11-17, 9-5 HC) is now tied for third in the conference with Newman but holds the tiebreaker with a plus-four point differential. Dallas Baptist (8-20, 5-9 HC) failed to qualify for the league tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hilltoppers cruised in set one with four kills from McClurg and four more from ALEXA MCANDREW to win 25-21.
- Set two was back and forth, but St. Edward's closed out the game on a 3-0 run with a kill from TABITHA ELDER, an ace from McClurg, and a kill from KATE HENDRIX.
- Seven assists from JACLYN BILLIE highlighted a 10-1 run in the final set.
- McAndrew clinched the sweep with a kill at 25-16.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Head coach Mary DeJute will appear in the Heartland Conference tournament for the first time.
- St. Edward's tied the all-time series with Dallas Baptist at 14-14.
- The Hilltoppers last win at Dallas Baptist came on Oct. 30, 2014.
