FORT SMITH, Ark. – St. Edward's volleyball season ended Friday as the Hilltoppers fell 3-1 to Lubbock Christian in the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals.
St. Edward's concludes its season with an overall record of 11-18 and a conference mark of 9-5. Lubbock Christian improves to 19-10 overall and will face Arkansas Fort Smith Saturday in the championship match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lubbock Christian took an early 10-4 lead in set one that St. Edward's could not overcome.
- A double block by KATE HENDRIX and TABITHA ELDER followed by a kill from KATIE MARTIN gave the Toppers a 2-0 lead in set two.
- With the score tied at 15, the Lady Chaps would rattle off 10 straight points to go up 2-0 in the match.
- Elder sparked a 5-1 run in set three to help the Hilltoppers pull within one set.
- MIKAYLA GRILL tied set four at 17, but LCU scored five of the last six points to clinch the win.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Friday marked head coach Mary DeJute's first appearance in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
- Martin led the Hilltopper offense with 14 kills on .250 hitting.
- MORGAN BECKHAM finished with 28 digs after earning conference libero of the year honors.
