SAN JUAN, P.R. – St. Edward's women's basketball closed out competition in Puerto Rico Friday with a 55-39 loss to the Indianapolis Greyhounds.
 
SHAKERA BARNES and BAILEY HILL led the team in scoring with nine points each. LEXI CUNNINGHAM had a team-high eight rebounds. Barnes also came up with three steals.
 
The Hilltoppers fall to 2-5 on the season. Indianapolis improves to 4-1 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• KHIANI CLARK put St. Edward's on the board first in the opening quarter, but the Greyhounds responded with six unanswered points and led 10-5 at the break.
• A three-pointer from FAIREN SUTTON pulled the Hilltoppers within two at 18-16 with 3:45 remaining in the second quarter.
• MADISON SCHENCK knocked down another three right before halftime to make it 24-19 after two periods.
• St. Edward's opened the third period with an 8-0 run to take a 25-24 lead behind Barnes, Cunningham and ABBY HOPPER.
• Indianapolis retook the lead, but KAT WILSON hit a shot from behind the arc to with 1:29 left in the third to make it 33-30.
• The Greyhounds pulled away in the fourth, outscoring St. Edward's 22-9 to clinch the win.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Friday was the first meeting in program history between St. Edward's and Indianapolis.
• The Hilltoppers shot 57 percent from 3-point range in the second half, but just 28 percent from the field for the game.
• The St. Edward's bench outscored the Greyhounds 21-7.

"I think a little bit of it is Shakera and Khiani have to play such big minutes for us. When we play back-to-back those two really struggle, at least that's been the trend. I think we saw that. For us to be successful we need our big players to play well, and I think they struggled. We just had to battle and scrape so hard. It was just too tough for us to score. They got a couple 3-pointers to go against the zone midway through the fourth quarter, and I think that was pretty much it."
