Hot Hands Spur Hilltoppers Past Mountaineers

St. Edward’s dominates Schreiner 92-55

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball shot 43 percent from the field Saturday as the Hilltoppers dominated Schreiner 92-55.
 
A quartet of Hilltoppers scored in double digits. KHIANI CLARK led all scorers with 18 points. LEXI CUNNINGHAM collected 16, while BAILEY HILL and MADISON SCHENCK each scored 11.
 
The trio of Schenck, Clark and Cunningham combined to grab 23 rebounds. SHAKERA BARNES and Hill both dished out five assists.
 
St. Edward's (3-5) has now won two of its last three games. Schreiner falls to 1-6 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hill and Clark helped the Hilltoppers to an early 5-0 lead with a 3-pointer from Hill and a layup from Clark.
  • An 11-0 run starting at the 6:11 mark of the first quarter extended St. Edward's lead to 12.
  • FAIREN SUTTON closed the opening period with a shot from behind the arc to make it 27-7.
  • St. Edward's cooled off in the second quarter but still outscored Schreiner 15-12 to take a 42-19 lead into the half.
  • ABBY HOPPER sparked a 5-0 run to start the third quarter, and Clark scored the Hilltoppers next six points to make it 50-25.
  • St. Edward's entered the fourth quarter with a 65-40 lead and did not look back, outscoring the Mountaineers 27-15.
 
HILLTOPPER NOTES
  • St. Edward's leads the all-time series with Schreiner 27-15 and is currently riding a six-game win streak against the Mountaineers.
  • The Hilltoppers have shot over 40 percent from the field in four games this season.
  • Barnes is now averaging 5.4 assists per game, which ranks 30th in the nation.
  • The last time St. Edward's scored more than 90 points in a game was in 2014
against Tuskegee.

The kids really executed today, but I think the biggest thing is just seeing the passion, excitement, and joy that we've been missing."
