SAN JUAN, P.R. – St. Edward's men's basketball wrapped up the Puerto Rico Classic, and its longest road trip of the season, Saturday with a 79-72 loss to Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
 
The Hilltoppers (5-3) pressed the issue again, forcing the Tarzanes into 19 turnovers. The only problem was that St. Edward's shot just 35 percent from the floor while the home team connected on 57 percent of its attempts.
 
The contest ended a five-game road trip for St. Edward's in which the Hilltoppers logged more than 3,500 travel miles in the last eight days.
 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Senior ETHAN GILBERT led four Hilltoppers in double-figure scoring with 16 points. Gilbert has scored in double figures in seven straight games.
• Sophomore JAMES TAYLOR (14) and senior RAMIR BURTON (10) helped the cause while sophomore LANDON GOESLING added 12 points off the bench.
• The Tarzanes won the battle on the boards, outrebounding St. Edward's 41-29.
• The Hilltoppers forced P.R.-Mayaguez into 19 turnovers compared to 11 turnovers for St. Edward's.

"We looked like a team that truly ran out of gas today. I probably asked too much from my guys to play five games in seven days after traveling thousands of miles. They tried, but we just didn't have it today. I give credit to Mayaguez as they were well-coached and made winning plays. Now we have to get back to Austin and get our guys some rest as we start a four-game homestand."
