Hot Shooting Propels Hilltoppers to Lopsided Victory

St. Edward’s back in win column with 95-62 triumph over Trinity

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball got back on track Tuesday with a 95-62 win over Trinity at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

St. Edward's (6-3) shot 58 percent in the second half to pull away from the Tigers who were held to 37 percent shooting on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trinity held a 21-13 advantage through the first 11 minutes of the game.
  • With the Tigers still holding a 31-30 lead with 4:35 remaining in the first half, St. Edward's responded with an 11-1 run to close the half with a 41-32 lead. Senior RAMIR BURTON had two layups and sophomore CORY MCKENDREE beat the buzzer with a tip-in to spark the rally.
  • The second half was all Hilltoppers as the home team outscored the Tigers, 54-30. Sophomore LANDON GOESLING led the way with 12 second-half points.

  • Goesling added 14 points, while Burton and senior JOHN GRAMLICH both chipped in with 11 points each.
  • St. Edward's tied a season high with 22 assists.
  • The Hilltoppers increase their lead in the series history to 23-16. They have now won four straight.

QUOTE BOARD: HEAD COACH ANDRE COOK
"I thought we did not play well in the first half. Effort and enthusiasm need to be present at all times. In the second half we played much better. Trinity came out with a lot of energy and we did not match that. If we play like that we will lose some games."

SENIOR GUARD JOHN GRAMLICH
"We came out a little slow. After a nice encouraging halftime speech by Coach Cook, we played to our potential in the second half. We need to start the game much better, especially on Saturday against a good Angelo State team."

UP NEXT
St. Edward's continues its four-game homestand Saturday with a matchup versus Angelo State. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats will be available at www.GoHilltoppers.com.
