AUSTIN, Texas –
St. Edward's shot 68 percent from the floor in the second half Monday to run away with a 91-75 win over Schreiner at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
St. Edward's (7-4) turned a two point halftime lead in to a rout in the second half on the strength of 20 second half points from senior
RAMIR BURTON.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Even though it was an exhibition game for NCAA Division III Schreiner, the Mountaineers came to play. The visitors took a 30-19 lead in the game's first 13 minutes of action.
- St. Edward's shook off a cold start shooting to rally down the stretch. Using a 20-7 run, the Hilltoppers captured a 39-37 advantage at the break. Sophomore JAMES TAYLOR scored 10 points in the final stanza to lead the way.
- In the second half, Schreiner stayed close but St. Edward's was too much on the offensive end for the Mountaineers. Seniors RAMIR BURTON (6-of-7 shooting) and JOHN GRAMLICH (6-of-8 shooting) combined to score 36 points in the second half.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Both Gramlich and Burton scored 26 points, while Taylor added 20 points of his own.
- St. Edward's forced 25 Mountaineer turnovers and turned them into 33 points.
- The 13 steals for the Hilltoppers matched a season high set last game versus Angelo State.
- St. Edward's takes the lead in the series history, 18-17. The Hilltoppers have now won four straight against the Mountaineers.
QUOTE BOARD: HEAD COACH ANDRE COOK
"We are not getting the point. We have to come to play every night. Schreiner is a good team. Energy, effort and enthusiasm need to present at all times. We have to play hard for all 40 minutes, not just 15."
St. Edward's wraps up its four-game homestand Thursday with a matchup with Texas Lutheran. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats will be available at
