WACO, Texas – St. Edward's Women's Tennis put together another dominant performance on Monday afternoon as they toppled Colorado Mesa, 8-1.

It was ELISA GUILLEN who clinched the triumph, winning the fifth point at No 6 singles. The usual suspects were also on display for St. Edward's as VALENTINA MARTINEZ joined Guillen to move to 11-1 in singles play. They lead the team in singles wins this season. IVANA ZECEVIC and LAURA GALVAN improved to 12-0 in doubles action. The duo has not lost a match since October. ANJALI SAMPATH grabbed her fifth singles win with a straight-set triumph at No. 1.

St. Edward's is now 9-3 overall, and 5-0 in the South Central Region. Mesa falls to 10-8.

"Today was a great way to finish off a busy couple of weeks, before a few days off," said head coach Kendall Brooks. "I think we are playing with some confidence now, and building on that each match. Doubles was solid. Singles was solid. Overall, I am happy with how we came out and competed. The level of focus this team is able to have while still enjoying the game, and each other, makes my job pretty easy. We will enjoy this win, and a short break, before getting back to it next week."

From start to finish it was all Hilltoppers. Each match went in straight sets, and only one tiebreaker was needed. Zecevic and Galvan were off the court first in doubles, winning 8-2, and Martinez and Guillen quickly followed with the same score. Sampath and MARISSA WILLIAMS finished off the doubles sweep, 8-4.

In singles, Galvan rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 to move St. Edward's within a point of the win. Zecevic clinched the win at No. 2 with a convincing, 6-1, 6-0 decision. Martinez and Guillen finished back-to-back with identical 6-4, 6-1 scores. Sampath made it a landslide at No. 1, rolling past her opponent, 6-3, 6-2.

Coach Brooks and her team return to the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts next Monday as they host Nebraska-Kearney. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with live stats available at GoHilltoppers.com.
