DALLAS, Texas – LAURA GALVAN is now the all-time leader for doubles wins in a single season at St. Edward's, and she is only a freshman. Galvan also won in singles to help send St. Edward's Women's Tennis past Newman, 5-2, to the Heartland Conference Tournament final on Friday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex.

Galvan was joined by IVANA ZECEVIC in her record-setting win. Zecevic now sits second on the all-time list for doubles wins in a single season. As a duo, Zecevic and Galvan are now 25-5 on the year, and 17-4 in dual action.

The Hilltoppers improve to 15-7 overall as the second seed in the tournament. Newman, a team St. Edward's defeated 6-3 earlier this season, ends its campaign with a record of 15-7.

"I couldn't be more excited about this win," said head coach Kendall Brooks. "We knew it was going to be a battle, and it definitely was. The goal we talked about all week was to go 3-0 in doubles. To come out and accomplish that was huge. All of the singles were close, so it was even more important to have a strong start. I was really proud of Elisa and Laura today. Elisa was zoned in from the start, and Laura continues to do what she does best, which is compete hard the entire match. Laura's win was huge for her, and for the time as she clinched the match. Tomorrow we have another opportunity to determine our own destiny."

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of ANJALI SAMPATH and MARISSA WILLIAMS struck first with an 8-3 win. Galvan's record-setting win with Zecevic came next at No. 3 in 8-5 fashion. At No. 2 it was a knock-down, drag-out battle that went to VALENTINA MARTINEZ, and ELISA GUILLEN, 9-7.

With a 3-0 lead, it looked to be all Hilltoppers. However, Newman was not done just yet The Jets grabbed wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Guillen countered the loss at No. 3 win a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6, and Galvan clinched it, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.

Coach Brooks and her team will face the winner of St. Mary's and Dallas Baptist on Saturday at noon for the tournament title. Live stats will be available at GoHilltoppers.com.
