EDMOND, Okla. – LAURA GALVAN notched her 17th singles win of the 2015-16 season on Sunday afternoon, and clinched a gritty 6-3 win over Central Oklahoma for St. Edward's Women's Tennis.

Galvan is now just one win out of the Hilltoppers' top-five all-time for singles wins in a season. The freshman also joined up with IVANA ZECEVIC, and moved to 14-1 in doubles action this spring. The victory puts Zecevic and Galvan both in the record book for doubles wins in a single season.

The Hilltoppers are now 12-4 overall with undefeated records in Heartland Conference and regional play. Central Oklahoma falls to 13-7.

"Today's win feels really good. It was a dogfight on every court," said head coach Kendall Brooks. "Physically, mentally, and emotionally, our girls left it all out there. I'm really proud of how we responded to adversity. It made them fight even harder, and really come together. That's all I can ask for. This was a great test for us leading up to a big weekend of conference matches ahead."

The Bronchos drew first blood  at No. 2 doubles, but the Hilltoppers quickly struck back. Galvan and Zecevic took No. 3 in shutout fashion, while Anjali Samapth and MARISSA WILLIAMS surrendered only one game on the way to victory at No. 1.

However, St. Edward's momentum and 2-1 lead was short-lived. Central Oklahoma quickly tied the match by winning No. 1 singles.

The Hilltoppers responded by winning four-straight matches to clinch the contest, and put the Broncho's hopes of victory out of reach.

VALENTINA MARTINEZ started the 4-0 run by winning No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2. ELISA GUILLEN quickly followed at No. 6 with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 win. Galvan, playing No. 4, clinched the contest in straight-set fashion, 7-5, 6-0. Zecevic added to the margin with a three-set thriller at No. 2, pulling off a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 come-from-behind victory.  Central Oklahoma's victory at No. 3 proved to be a small consolation in the loss.

Coach Brooks and her squad return to the courts next weekend with a pair of neutral-site, Heartland Conference showdowns. On Friday, the Hilltoppers face Arkansas Fort Smith in Arlington, Texas, and then take on 43rd-ranked Newman on Saturday in the same location.
