ST. GEORGE, Utah –
OLIVIA BURDICK improved to 3-0 with a complete-game victory over Central Washington to lead St. Edward's to a doubleheader split Friday at the Dixie State Easton Classic at Canyon Softball Complex.
St. Edward's (6-5) defeated Central Washington (6-3) in the first game, 4-3, before falling to Dixie State (6-0) in the second game, 8-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 – Central Washington)
- KAYLA APPLEBY started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI-double.
- St. Edward's put up single runs in both the second and third innings.
- BRITTNEY BRYSON collected the first home run of her career in the second inning.
- MELINA SANCHEZ drove home a run in the third inning on a single.
- SHELBY JANDA capped off the Hilltopper scoring in the fifth inning with a home run to center field.
- Central Washington rallied with three runs in sixth inning, but it came up short as Hilltopper pitcher OLIVIA BURDICK struck out the final batter to end the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 – Dixie State)
- Dixie State started the game with three runs in the first inning.
- The Trailblazers added two runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth to control the game.
- St. Edward's was able to tally just two hits. KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ and SAMI WILLIAMS collected both of them.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Burdick went the distance to improve to 3-0 on the year. She now carries a 1.40 ERA to lead the team.
- St. Edward's has hit 10 home runs in its first 11 games this season after 19 home runs in 50 games last season.
