AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's women's tennis dropped its first match of the season Friday as it fell to No. 9 Northeastern State, 8-1.
 
VANESSA CAMARA claimed the Hilltoppers lone point on line six. The Hilltoppers pushed the RiverHawks to third-set tiebreakers in two singles matches and one doubles match.
 
St. Edward's falls to 3-1 on the year. Northeastern State improves to 4-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Northeastern State quickly jumped ahead 2-0 with a pair of 8-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
• The Hilltoppers' doubles team of ELISA GUILLEN and VALENTINA MARTINEZ battled on line three but fell in the tiebreaker 9-8 (4).
• Another win for the RiverHawks at No. 2 singles made it 4-0.
• Camara responded with her 6-4, 6-1 victory to put St. Edward's on the board.
• Northeastern State clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-2 decision on line one.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Camara remains undefeated in singles at 3-0 this spring.
• St. Edward's is 1-8 all-time against Northeastern State, and have lost three straight.
• ANJALI SAMPATH played her first singles match of the spring after sitting out the first three matches. She is ranked 49th in the country.

"Today was a tough day. Northeastern State is a good team, and we knew that going in. We just weren't able to get anything going. I wasn't pleased with our effort, or how we handled the windy conditions. We were able to play with more fight in singles and give ourselves a chance. Vanessa (Camara) player great, but we lost two other matches in third sets and had another two that were very close. You can't afford to not capitalize on opportunities against a good team.
